If the 220 is like the 6600, 8500GT and 9500GT that I have had in my machine then you will need to connect the small 2 pin connector from the motherboard to the graphics card to enable digital sound pass through. in my XL100 it's a black and white cable. and you will need to make sure the onboard sound is enabled. I could be wrong as I've never had a 220 to look at. [ image disabled ]
I'm afraid you are wrong. The 200-series cards do not use SPDIF pass through like the previous cards which is why they are not suitable if you require simultaneous SPDIF and HDMI audio.
They now have their own dedicated audio device on the video card and so do not require an internal cable connected to the motherboard audio. This nVidia audio device is additional to the onboard Simatel device and so does need a separate driver. This should be automatically installed as part of the nVidia graphics bundle.
The only other thing to check is your default audio playback device (Control Panel > Sound) which will now need to be the NVidia device. You can have both the Sigmatel and nVidia devices enabled at the same time but you can only have one default. thanks for the advise... Not connecting the spdif cable was my understanding also... Sound issue seems to be resolved after reinstalling the nvidia drivers 196.21 but i couldnt manage to get DTS or DD unaltered to my receiver. It always sends the sound as multi channel pcm. Windows can not even play the DTS test sound via nvidia sound device. Most probably a configuration issue but any comment is appreciated.
Other than the sound, i am very happy with the movie playback and low cpu usage at 20% for blu ray or 1080p mkv. Sony Vaio XL-201 Leadtek Winfast GT 220 1024 MB DDR3
Sorry for reviving this post but at a computer fair the trader claimed he had a low profile nvidea 250- what is the current situation with fan/fanless cards that can fit within the XLs- what are the best avaliable at the moment/near future?
I don't think that card would fit, all the info i can find is about one made by sparkle. the heatsink and fan look like they would need 2 card slots. and it also requires a 6 pin power connector which the XL series power supply's don't have. [ image disabled ]
